It would be Penny and Sparrow. And guess what? They’re coming to Common Grounds.
Penny and Sparrow’s “Tenboom” is that album that just makes you want to curl up in bed when it’s cold outside when you have a perfectly warm cup of coffee. For me, that feeling has always come with basically any song or album by Bon Iver, who is coincidentally one of the band’s greatest influences. The duo is coming to Common Grounds just in time for the cool weather that matches them so perfectly, and it’s a show that you’re not going to want to miss.
Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnkee of Austin, TX make up the band, and the two have been playing music together since they became roommates in 2006. And on a completely unrelated note, they also just like everyone to know that they love musicals, which is humorously touted on all of their social media outlets.
Again, Penny and Sparrow attribute their musical influences to Bon Iver, as well as The Swell Season and Mumford and Sons. I’ll also dare to say that if you’re a fan of City and Colour, you’re a fan of Penny and Sparrow. Their pure acoustic sounds and soft yet capturing vocals are much like those of City and Colour. And you can (and should) come hear them at their show at Common Grounds Friday, November 8th at 8 pm.
